Wil proposed to Alyce at the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney. “Wil and I had already picked my engagement ring. This made it difficult for him to organise a proposal plan that I wouldn’t catch onto. Pretending we were meeting friends for dinner in the city, Wil booked a mystery hotel. The Shangri-La Hotel overlooks the Sydney Harbour Bridge and after a day of wandering around the city we arrived in our room which had been decorated with rose petals. Formed in yet more rose petals on the bed were the words, ‘Will you marry me?’. It was so special and we celebrated our engagement with a degustation dinner at The Gantry Pier One afterwards.”
PLANS & PREPARATIONS | “We absolutely loved planning our wedding it was so much fun. We were lucky to have my mum and sister helping along the way too.” As high school sweethearts and having dated for over 10 years, Alyce and Wil’s wedding had been, “A long time coming. I had dreamt of our wedding day and as soon as we were engaged turned all my attention to Pinterest and away we went!”
DON’T LET TODAY END | Alyce and Wil believe they have watched their wedding video at least a thousand times! “We had the best day because it ran so smoothly. It was so special to have all our family and friends in the one place to celebrate our love. I cried during the last song because I didn’t want the day to end.” After their sparkler send off Alyce ventured back inside the reception venue to help pack up, “I didn’t want to leave!”
COLD HANDS WARM HEART | With a late autumn wedding, the weather was quite cool. “It was a cold day but it didn’t seem to matter to anyone. We provided blankets for the ceremony, (to have and to hold in case you get cold) and heaters for warmth during the post ceremony drinks beside the lake.”
DESTINATION LOVE | The couple looked at multiple venues in Sydney but finally decided on a mini destination wedding. “We wanted our friends and family to enjoy a weekend away. Wil and I fell in love with the stunning gardens at Bendooley Estate. The Estate’s wedding planner Mark was so professional and we appreciated his honesty and passion for the wedding industry. The Book Barn and the cellar door were perfect for our countryside destination wedding.”
THE GOWN | Alyce wore a long sleeved, beaded Berta gown. It featured both low back and front with sheer mesh. “For the ceremony I wore a layered, handmade full skirt over my dress complete with dramatic train. I loved my gown. As soon as I put it on it just felt right - and purchased all in a single day’s shopping!”
CONTEMPORARY STYLE | The wedding had a modern and elegant feel with white blooms and gold as an accent colour. Statement floral arrangements were the order of the day. Tall gold vases and stands were brought in for the reception centrepieces, holding fresh white blooms of roses and orchids. “As a tribute to my late Nan whose favourite flower was roses, I held a bouquet of roses.”
QUITE AN ENTRANCE | “Rather than being formally introduced as Mr and Mrs Flint during our wedding ceremony, we arrived at the post-ceremony drinks via a large tunnel in the cellar door to be announced. It was unplanned but so much fun!”
‘SWEET’ HEART | Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Alyce and Wil opted for a macaron tower with mini cake feature. “It was white and decorated with a gold watercolour effect.”

Meeting on a sail boat whilst they were both travelling throgh Croatia, Marie and Dean planned their day as the fairytale way their relationship began. “Coming from big Italian and Maltese families it was stressful at times but I loved the creative elements – the styling, invitations, music, flowers!
