What ignited your love of fashion and design?

I was immersed in the colourful life of dressmaking by my mother and grandmothers who all, at one point in time, worked as seamstresses. As a result, from a young age I became fascinated by the construction of gowns. I’d always look at garments and wonder how they were made and what was involved in creating that final form. On many occasions I even pulled them apart to learn the construction process. I see beauty and inspiration in many things with design, in any way shape or form and it is always at the forefront of my mind.

What are your main sources of inspiration?

Global opulence, different design eras and impeccable tailoring. We also look to strong, glamorous and iconic women. Women that stand out not just for their fashion sense, but for their attitude, talent and personality. These wonderful women inspire me and we celebrate them in my designs.

How did the design of your latest collection develop?

I am so proud of this collection. It is our launch moment and the culmination of many years of creative thinking and planning. I have been inspired by the Victorian Era with its intricate detail, texture and structure, particularly with focus on the shoulders, waist, hips and neck. Together, this shape embodies the collection.

Colour and fabrication are key and we have created a collection in off-whites, bordeaux and forest green using intricate beading and lace as well as sheer tulle and silk.

Floral design was also an important source of inspiration to this collection. Especially hydrangeas and cherry blossoms and the romantic effects they create both from a colour and tailoring perspective.

Favourite materials you work with?

I like to use hand beaded pearls, lace and printed silks. I enjoy experimenting with mixing textures and creating something that hasn’t been seen before.

What is your design philosophy?

A woman should always feel strong, beautiful and elegant. I always design with this in mind.

What is on the horizon for the brand?

Creating our second collection, building our brand and its foundations in Australia and creating a legacy in this market and over time, globally.

Best part of the job?

Meeting new people and being able to design every day. I am surrounded by other creatives who inspire me and help develop my creative thinking. To be able to call my true passion and hobby my job is something I will never take for granted.
