We started our new issue with one question… What inspires us?
One of life’s most exciting steps is finding someone who inspires you, someone to share your time with and perhaps even get engaged. From there, the magic of your wedding and marriage journey begins.
If this is you, congratulations! This is a time when you will be inspired to plan and create your own wedding and we know it may feel a little overwhelming!
Whilst embarking on a little retail therapy, I recently met a sales assistant who asked me what I did. When I mentioned everAFTER she squealed excitedly, she had just gotten engaged! However as we talked further, she explained that she had put a hold on her wedding plans. Her initial joy had turned into stress. Planning the event was becoming too much and social media had given her a kind of ‘status anxiety’. On one hand she felt as though her day needed to resemble the images she saw online and in magazines but on the other hand, she wanted the day to be personal and individual. To reassure her I replied, “It doesn’t matter what your day looks like because you and your future husband will always remember it as uniquely you." Coincidentally, she had previously received a copy of everAFTER magazine from a friend. She said to me, “I felt like I could breathe again!”
I have to admit our encounter gave me goosebumps because it reminded me why I started everAFTER in the first place. Planning a wedding should not be stressful and while organising a wedding is a huge task, (not including the grand expectations we put on ourselves) it should always be entered with the same energy and joy that brought it about.
Each page of this magazine and each wedding we feature is designed simply to inspire you, we want to introduce you to the world of weddings with the suppliers and couples that have been there before you. We want you to breathe and find the elements and ideas that speak to you.
Remember, while planning your wedding, take time to do non-wedding things. Keep it all in perspective and if things don’t quite go to plan on the day, don’t let it phase you. Most likely you are the only one who will notice.
The everAFTER team did just that with this winter issue's photoshoot. We packed the cars and headed to the countryside but unfortunately so did the rain! It rained and rained oh, and rained some more. Did I mention it rained? All those feelings of frustration brides-to-be sometimes feel, I can tell you, I felt just the same. However, we took a moment, dried off and visited the Bromley & Co Gallery. Feeling newly inspired, our planned outdoor bridal shoot became an ode to the artist’s muse. Full of warmth, colour and winter romance, we couldn’t have created something so special if it wasn’t for the rain.
The coming autumn/winter season sees bold moves towards styling and designs that are awash with colour. This season is influenced by the past but not necessarily focused on a vintage or antique feel. Old world glamour returns with cinematic splendour as well as quaint romanticism.
Every wedding in this issue inspired us, from Rindala’s warm winter celebration to Zoe’s wedding at Campbell Point House in her stunning, long sleeve lace Valentino gown.
Lastly, and more personally, one of the most inspiring moments of 2016 was celebrating my own wedding anniversary in Morocco. From glamping in the Sahara under a sky of stars as bright as day, to getting lost in the souks of the Medina in Marrakesh and drinking mint tea in the most incredible riads, I share it all with you in our travel feature. If adventure and inspiration is what you’re after, Morocco has so much to offer. It will however leave you feeling like there is so much more to discover!
Be inspired. Enjoy the pages that follow and remember to breathe.
