How did Quill’s story begin?

Quill officially started in 2015 after I graduated from university. Initially the focus was on branding and various marketing design, however after my own wedding shortly followed by a co-worker at my 'day-job' referring me to her friend for stationery, my passion for weddings really kicked into gear! The endless possibilities working with paper can provide has always been my passion and now it gets to be the grounds of my business allowing me bring that same excitement to others.

How do you work with couples?

All my couples work with me primarily over email, allowing me to work with some truly amazing couples from all over the globe. Using the couples wedding mood-board, style or bouquet ideas I go away and create any illustration work that will suit their wedding perfectly. All illustrations in my designs have been drawn or painted by myself, as is any script lettering or calligraphy. My favourite part of working this way means that just like no two couples are there sane, no two weddings are the same!

Can you share 3 pieces of advice for a couple when they are selecting their stationery elements?

  1. Consider your style - are a fun loving couple with a super chill wedding? Or does the more traditional luxe style wedding draw you in?  Your stationery is the first point of contact that your guests with your wedding so it should suit the day perfectly.

  2. Think about your budget - if you adore letterpress but you're on a strict budget, that just means its time to get creative! Is there something you can swap out for the luxe finishes? Do you really need a reply card and envelope or will everyone text you anyway? Use your budget wisely and on the things that really matter to you as a couple.

  3. Be prepared - stationery is one of few things that can be organised early so why not take a little stress away from the lead-up to your big day and tick that box off your checklist.

How would you describe your style?

Hand crafted modern luxury. I use the age old technique of drawing, painting and calligraphy to add a luxuriously unique spin on modern designs.

Something you have learnt during COVID?

You don't have to do it all. Life gets busy and juggling everything is DAMN HARD so accepting that there are things you can't do sometimes is key, whether that's outsourcing tasks or only working with a select number of clients at a time. I'm that person that has 10 hobbies, three jobs and a house renovation underway, plus trying to fit in a social life! In a way COVID was a refreshing break from everyday life and the constant stress. Now that things are starting to return to normal, taking that time out to enjoy life with my husband and actually enjoying a weekend are something we're trying hard to maintain.

Do you believe weddings may change in 2021?

Absolutely. Given the newest wave of restrictions I find it hard to see how they won't. I think couples will get creative with their ceremonies. I love the idea of having a more intimate ceremony with your closest loved ones. I'd love to see more smaller, intimate ceremonies followed by a big celebratory party at a later date to be a big trend moving forward.

Personal note - short and sweet

Do you have anyone that have inspired you?

My mum. She was an amazing artist and did a lot of sketching. I am forever thankful for the time she spent teaching me to draw and encouraging me with my many artistic endeavors growing up.

Do you collect anything?

Haha not particularly. I have a house full of art materials so I don't have the room for collecting!

Never leave home without!?

Nothing particularly exciting - my phone and sunnies are usually about it

Star sign?

Taurus - patient, stubborn and determined!

When there is downtime what can we find you doing!?

Baking, renovating or chilling out on the lounge watching Netflix

Favourite flower?

So many... but I'd have to say hydrangeas

Favourite season?

Summer! Just not always the 45+ degree summers we can get here in Wagga!

When we can travel again where is your first destination?

Where is your favourite destination? Fiji - I can't imagine much better than sitting on the beach drinking cocktails at 10am right now!

On your wish list or personal goal right now!?
